Today is World Clubfoot Day which takes place on the birthday of Dr. Ignacio Ponseti, pioneer of the Ponseti method for clubfoot.
As previously documented, HG began the Ponseti method when he was 2 weeks old. He went through a series of gentle manipulations of the foot/ankle and weekly serial casting. After four casts Dr. Hyer, our amazing Greenville doctor, performed a heel cord release surgery, and HG wore his hulk green casts for just over three weeks as the tendon healed. His final cast (for now) was removed and we are now in the maintenance stage of the Ponseti method in which we keep HG’s braces on for 23 out of 24 hours per day. We will return to Greenville on June 18th to make sure there has been no regression. (Fingers crossed )
Us sweaty, stressed, defeated parents that struggled to wrangle HG into his car seat for the first time never could have imagined that his feet and legs would look like they do now! We are so grateful for medical advances, Dr. Ponseti’s technique, and the amazing doctors!
